Dynamic markings
|
Tempo MARKINGSTempo refers to how fast or slow the beat (or pulse) of a piece of music is.
Remember, these terms are relative and cannot be as exact as a metronome marking.... |
Expression markingsExpression markings tell us how to approach certain notes or phrases within a piece - how much emphasis to give (or not to give) etc...
|
Simple OrnamentsIn music, ornaments are musical decorations that are not necessary to carry the overall line of the melody (or harmony), but serve instead to "ornament" that line.

- both major and relative minor!
For the detailed rundown watch this helpful tutorial:
Or simply remember these basic principles:
- One sharp # = G major
- After this point simply count up one note from the last (furthest to the right) sharp and that note is the root note of your key signature!!!
- One flat b = F major
- After this point simply look at the second last flat (to the right) - in other words the penultimate flat
- To figure out the relative minor of any of these: Figure out what the major key would be using the systems above. Then count DOWN 3 note names from that
- Example: If the major key is G major, count down three notes to E to get the relative minor
